Frequently Asked Questions for FUOYE Admission

For admission into any program at Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), candidates must meet these basic O'level requirements:

  • A minimum of five (5) credit passes in relevant subjects in WAEC, NECO, or NABTEB examinations.
  • The five credits must include English Language and Mathematics, regardless of your intended course of study.
  • The required credits must be obtained in not more than two sittings.
  • Specific faculties may require additional relevant subjects:

Always check the specific requirements for your desired course on the FUOYE website or JAMB brochure for the most accurate information.

JAMB UTME subject requirements vary by faculty at FUOYE. You can check from here

Always verify the exact subject combinations for your specific program of interest from the current JAMB brochure or FUOYE website as requirements may be updated.

The minimum JAMB UTME cut-off mark for FUOYE typically ranges between 150-180, but this can vary each academic year based on the following factors:

  • The general cut-off mark set by JAMB for all universities (which is usually announced after the UTME results are released).
  • FUOYE's specific institutional cut-off mark, which may be higher than JAMB's minimum requirement.
  • The course-specific cut-off marks, which vary based on program popularity and available slots:
    • Competitive courses such as Medicine, Engineering, Law, and some Science programs typically require higher scores (sometimes 200 and above).
    • Less competitive programs may accept the minimum institutional cut-off mark.

Important notes:

  • Meeting the minimum cut-off mark does not guarantee admission, as selection is competitive.
  • The final admission decision is based on a combination of your UTME score, post-UTME screening performance, and O'level results.
  • Cut-off marks are subject to change each academic year based on the performance of candidates and available spaces.

For the most current cut-off mark, check FUOYE's official website or contact the admissions office when UTME results are released.

FUOYE's post-UTME screening process typically follows these steps:

As a federal university, FUOYE follows the national admission policy that incorporates the federal character principle, which affects how admission slots are allocated:

Admission Quota Breakdown:

  • Merit Quota (45%): Allocated to candidates with the highest scores regardless of state of origin or other factors.
  • Catchment Area Quota (35%): Reserved for candidates from FUOYE's catchment states, which include:
    • Ekiti State (as the host state)
    • Neighboring southwestern states (Ondo, Osun, Oyo, Ogun, and Lagos)
  • Educationally Less Developed States (ELDS) Quota (20%): Reserved for candidates from states officially designated as educationally disadvantaged.

How This Affects Your Chances:

  • Candidates from catchment areas may sometimes be admitted with slightly lower scores compared to non-catchment candidates.
  • Applicants from ELDS states may benefit from the special consideration given to their states.
  • Candidates with very high scores typically get admitted under the merit quota regardless of state of origin.
  • Competition is usually higher for popular courses, so higher scores are generally needed regardless of quota category.

Strategy Tips:

  • Aim for high scores in both JAMB UTME and O'level to increase your chances under the merit quota.
  • If you're from the catchment area or an ELDS state, ensure your state of origin is correctly indicated in your application.
  • Consider applying for courses with relatively lower competition if your scores are modest.

The implementation of the quota system may vary slightly each academic year based on policies from the Federal Ministry of Education and the university's specific admission strategies.
